Surroundings

Beach of La Franca, besides being the most easterly of Asturias, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, spacious and accessible of the Cantabrian coast, which has earned the blue flag of quality of the European Community.

The beach becomes a "natural pool" when there is high tide, very safe for kids and excellent for water sports, underwater and rock fishing.

The low tide exposes a large sandy area, in which small coves rinch in fishing are formed, allowing access to the beach of the Bear, a small cove between the cliffs, and with more difficulty to the beach of Mendía or Regolgueru, which can also be reached by a steep path from the nearby town of Pimiango.

4 km from the beach of La Franca, in the nearby town of Buelna, Cobijeru complex is worth visiting, a natural monument of great scenic, geological and educational value comprised of the beach of Acacias and cave Cobijeru.

The peculiarity of Las Acacias is that it is an indoor beach, which communicates with the sea by two underground conduits and is externally powered by a stream that flows into it.

Cobijero Cave communicates with the higher inner shoreline through a gallery that includes a large room with remarkable formations and subject to the tide levels.

Surroundings

Irun is enclosed at the easternmost part of the Basque Country, on the border with France (French Basque Country) and Navarre.

It is on top of the Txingudi Bay formed by the Bidasoa river mouth. Hendaya and Hondarribia also belong to this natural area and both possess beatiful beaches. The bay is very beatiful and of high ecological value thanks to the high degree of harmony reached between human development and the respect to the natural environment. To this respect we can stress that Irun is located between two different ecological spaces of high interest.
